Bathing my baby was a sweet task. Atleast for me. I was working from home then and had ample time to give my son a proper, full scale Telugu baby bath. I'd rub the 'nuvvula nune' (sesame seed oil) in on his delicate skin and then give him a leisurely bath with 'sunnipindi' (Uptan in Hindi and Herbal bath powder in English).
Sunnipindi snanam given to kids always fascinated me. As a kid I would watch my ammamma give my baby cousins these elaborate baths which were a neat sequence of steps. First rub oil in, then rub in pindi and then wash with water and so on. Once done, babies fall promptly asleep!
Am eager to share details about the Sunnipindi snanam as I know it. There are many versions of course and this one is the one from my region, Telangana.
